Yesterday's election reminds me of lyrics from Which Way to America, by Living Colour.
When Nancy Pelosi became our first female Speaker of the House, the coverage of that "'historic event" annoyed me to no end. I was taught, and believed, anyone could be president, Senator, Speaker of the House--whatever. Sex, Race, etc., where not factors is such decisions.
Now, we've elected our first black President. My initial reaction is annoyance as churches full of blacks are celebrating "proof" that a black person can be elected president. But the more I ponder it, the more grateful I am that My America has always known that a black person, or woman (or Hispanic, Asian,
